my dad, walter s. glowik, served on the 401st bombardment group in squadron 612 from 1943 to 1945.  a few years ago, my dad tried to get the bronze star (metorious) that he earned but never got because he was shipped out of deenethorpe before it could be issued to him.  he served under colonel bowman and later under colonel garland. he is in poor health and this is suddenly very important to him. i have written to nprc web but have not heard anything from them.  if anyone can help me make this happen for him i would appreciate it.  thanks.     claudia (glowik) gravin

Hello Claudia,  My Dad, Willis Vern Dawkins served with your dad, and I have a photo of them together.  I would be glad to share it with you.  Dad was master sergeant on the ground crew of the Heavenly Body until she went down with almost 100 missions to her credit.  I don't know the name of the second plane.  Please see if your Dad remembers my Dad.  My Dad passed away in 1988 and would not talk about his time in the war with me but he did tell my Mother some things.  Hug your Dad for me since I cannot hug either of them.  Will be talking to you.

Jean (in Texas)

Hello again Claudia,  If you would like to email me my address is:  dapawkings@sbcglobal.net.  Use the subject line "Walter and Vern" and I will know that it is from you.  My Mother is very excited that I have found or been found by one of Dad's frineds from Deenethorpe.  Take care.  Jean

Claudia, I'm currently in the Air Force and will tell you that getting these medals issued after all these years can be a long, grueling process.  I don't normally advocate this but, since time may be of the essence, I suggest you contact your local congressman's office.  Most have a military liaison who can help cut through the red tape for you.  You'll still need the documentation of your father's service, but I've heard a good liaison officer can shorten this process from 6 months to 6 weeks.  Good luck.

Dear Claudia,  I saw your message on the 401st web site about your father. This brought back memories as I too was supposed to receive the bronze star and the silver star.
I too was a mechanic--612th squadron.   Write me personally on my email address
