Hi Andrea! I happen to have known the bombardier, Chuck Stode, of your grandpa's crew, and I have just recently been exchanging emails with a gentleman who knows the ball turret gunner, Howard Crull. Their B-17 was called Command Performance II, and it was considered by the crew to be a lucky plane, as no one was ever injured until the second Schweinfurt raid, when it was shot down and I believe the waist gunners were killed. I believe the rest of the crew spent the next 13 months as "guests" of the Reich in a POW camp. Not much info, I know, but I hope others can add some more! Good luck to you!
