Ruff and Reddy

I am trying to find out about my father, Robert J Maxwell. I have an old photo of him and it has "Ruff and Reddy" printed in his hand on the back. He was a waist gunner. He was from Delaware and went to the Harlingen Gunnery School in Texas. According to a newspaper article he flew over 30 missions. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks!

Couldn't find an R.J. Maxwell on any of the 401st crews. Are you sure he was 401st? Did find another Ruff and Ready in the 391st Bomb Group.

according to the book 401st bomb Group 'The Best damn Outfit in the USAAF' there was an a/c called Ruff and Reddy.
However, the serial number of this B-17 is not known. I also cannot trace your fathers name in the crew listings.
Would you have any further information available ?.

When I said in my initial response that there was another Ruff and Ready in the 391st, I meant another besides the one in the 401st.

She posted the picture we have of him in with a crew. His records were stolen from our mother and the originals lost in a fire by the Air Force. So we are stuck! Thanks for all your leads! Sharon
