My Dad Erwin O Steinke went to camp Grant in Ill then went to Amarillo Air Field before comeing into the 615 of the 401st Im doing a collection of his letters and pictures from the start of his service to the Army Air crops thru his return home after the war, as a Christmas Gift to my bothers. Im doing this in a book form. Im very lucky to have found a scrapbook with all his letters and pictures in it. This was discovered going thur many things my grandmother had. My dad went into the service in JUNE 1943 He was with the start of the 401st. Does anyone have or know where I might find a picture of the different bases he was at in the United States? Id like to include a picture of each camp with all his letters. In total I have about 200 letters incluing a format that was used in WWII VEmail. I also have many letters that were written by my fathers friends and cousins that were in many different parts of the army and severed in different parts of the world. Do you think anyone would want to read these? I know the 4th Army was mentioned and I even have Army post cards and a Army Christmas card . I found many newspaper clipping that were saved too. Please email mail if anyone can help Thnaks Lynda

There is specifically, a book on Texas WWII bases.  I saw it for sale at a Barnes and Noble in Dallas.  Will try to get a title and author.

There are three copies of a book specifically on Amarillo Air Base if you do a search on Bookfinders.com for Amarillo Air Base.
