The 401st provided 12 aircraft each to make up the 94th Combat Wing "D" and "E" Forces. The "D" Force dropped it bombs beyond the target because of a malfunctioning bombsight. When this was discovered, the Force dropped on the deputy leader's signal but too late to hit the target. The "E" Force, led by Lt. E.C. Owens, made a visual run on the target with excellent results. No enemy aircraft were encountered and, while flak was described as moderate but accurate, three 401st aircraft received major damage, and two crew members were wounded.
