A while ago now I obtained a copy of a photograph of B17 44-8259, IY-K from the RAF Musuem.

Can anyone help in providing information on this aircraft ?.

I.E. missions flown, crews names that flew in her etc.

I know that she joined the group on the 18/11/44 and was trans to the 305th at Chelveston 20/05/45.

Any Info would be helpful.

Many Thanks

Dave Pearce

Will check through the squadron's crew/mission book and see if I can put together a chronology of crews and missions.

Have found a reference to 44-8259 flown by Gerber's 615th crew on the 4/19/45 mission to Falkenburg.  It does not designate it as IY-K.  There are a few references to 44-8258, but that's all I can find for 44-8259.  Will check the other squadron crew/missions listings.

P.S. my last reply Re: B17 44-8259 IY-K

The reference for the mission of Gerber's crew does say IY-K, but I am finding more references to that serial number under IY-G with the 614th.

Dave,

My dad, Jack Young, flew as a flight eng. on a B17G, SN 43-38425, IY-K starting in Sept. '44.  It was a new plane at the time.  He received it after their plane "Pakawalup II" was shot down while his crew was on leave.  I'm not sury why there would be two designations of "IY-K", for the 615th Sqd.

Its pilot from that time until they rotated out after 35 missions on January 17th, '45, was John Udy, and co-pilot was Bill Hockaday.  Not sure if this helps you this late after your question, but email me if I can try and answer any more questions.
